Poplar

University of Bath, 2018/2019

As a team of Architects and Engineers, we worked together to produce a concept for revitalising a neglected area of East London. Following a site visit, a subsequent site analysis and inspiration from urban community gardens, we identified ecology and biodiversity as factors that could instigate positive change to this community. We aimed to provide space for social interaction, and a sense of belonging and responsibility for the gardens as well as awareness on ecology and sustainability.

I incorporated roof lights, green roofs, rain water harvesting and filtering of water from the canal, transparent photovoltaic glass and a heat recovery system in the greenhouse. I also looked for opportunities to achieve a circular economy. I came up with the ventilation strategy for the office spaces and greenhouse, as well as proposing a ground source heat pump for heating during the winter.
